Winslow does it again. "The Force" is a gritty, corruption-infused NYC cop tale that steams and rages with the frenetic pulse of the City. Yudkowsky wrote that the secret to crafting compelling fiction is to make terrible things happen to your characters. Our anti-hero, NYPD cop Denny Malone, ricochets from bad to worse as his crooked ways catch up to him and his partners. He dodges the mob, raids the projects, rips off drug dealers, deceives his friends, pays off lawyers, goes head-to-head with the Feds, and plays power-brokers off each other. It's not quite as good Winsolow's "The Power of the Dog," but that book deserves 6 stars, so 5 is fair here. The audiobook narration is excellent as well.
